The Government of President Nayib Bukele is moving forward with its plan to provide access to electricity services to communities that have never received them. This initiative was recently announced by the Executive Hydroelectric Commission of the Lempa River (CEL).
To achieve this goal, CEL has extended invitations to residents from communities in five different departments of the country that have never before had access to electricity. These residents will be taking part in the significant consultation phase of the Universal Energy Access Program.
The program, executed in collaboration with Distribuidora Cuscatlán (DEC) and with the financial support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), aims to ensure that all communities have access to this fundamental service. According to CEL’s President, Daniel Álvarez, this is a commitment that will soon become a reality, driven by President Nayib Bukele’s directive to continue the transformation of El Salvador, enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.
The consultation is scheduled to take place on August 26th and 27th in various communities, including La Tirana in Usulután, El Garrucho in Sonsonate, La Joya in San Vicente, and Los Palacios in Ahuachapán.
Families benefiting from this initiative expressed their gratitude to the Government for bringing light to communities that had been forgotten for many years. Carlos Flores, a resident of Cantón La Joya in San Vicente, shared his happiness, saying, “We thank President Bukele’s government for fulfilling the promise to bring energy to these overlooked communities. We are truly delighted.”
Furthermore, CEL emphasized that Salvadorans residing in the aforementioned communities will have the opportunity to contribute their input and learn more about the program. The institution reaffirmed that this vision of the Salvadoran Government will soon become a tangible reality.
This initiative reflects a bold step towards equitable development, bridging the gap and ensuring that even the most underserved communities can benefit from the essential services that electricity provides.
