President Nayib Bukele announced today that July 2023 has been marked as the safest month in the history of El Salvador. According to the analysis of the annual homicide rate for the period from January to July 2023, the country maintained a record-low rate of 2.2 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
President Bukele proudly emphasized that July 2023 will go down in history as the safest month ever in El Salvador. In a statement made this morning, he highlighted the continuous annual homicide rate of 2.2 per 100,000 inhabitants, a significant achievement for the nation.
“July 2023 closes as the safest month in the entire history of El Salvador. If we annualize the homicide rate from January to July, El Salvador, once known as one of the world’s most dangerous countries, would have only 2.2 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants annually. We are now the safest country in the Americas,” the Salvadoran president wrote on his official social media accounts.
The National Civil Police (PNC) also reported that on July 31, the country achieved an extraordinary milestone with zero homicides recorded throughout the Salvadoran territory. “We concluded Monday, July 31, with 0 homicides in the country,” the police reiterated on their social media platforms.
This remarkable achievement is attributed to the successful implementation of the Plan Control Territorial (PCT), initiated on June 20, 2019, and the exceptional measures approved by the Legislative Assembly.
El Salvador has gained international recognition for its significant transformation in ensuring the safety and security of its population through the effective strategies employed by the current government, including the regime of exception that further enhanced the actions of the Plan Control Territorial.
President Bukele’s administration has shown a relentless commitment to combatting crime, promoting social development, and fostering a peaceful environment for its citizens. The combination of effective law enforcement strategies and a proactive approach has undoubtedly contributed to the decline in crime rates and the milestone of zero homicides in a single day.
The citizens of El Salvador can now look forward to a brighter and safer future as their country continues to move towards lasting peace and stability, setting an example for others in the region to follow. The world watches closely as El Salvador emerges as a model for successful crime reduction and social progress.
