The athletes from the 37 participating delegations at the Central American and Caribbean Games are savoring the exotic flavors of El Salvador’s renowned coffee to celebrate their triumph.
As part of the prizes awarded to over 5,000 athletes participating in the San Salvador 2023 Games, the “grain of gold” from El Salvador has taken center stage. In addition to accumulating medals, experiences, and emotions, athletes have had the opportunity to indulge in one of the world’s finest coffees: El Salvador’s Coffee.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) announced that throughout the competition, the government has made Café de El Salvador available to all 37 delegations. This distinctive brand showcases the specialty varieties cultivated in the country.
Visitors have access to the beverage at various sports venues and resting areas, allowing them to experience the exotic flavors of the national aromatic coffee, which is highly sought after in dozens of countries worldwide. As of May 2023, El Salvador’s coffee exports have reached an impressive total of $85.3 million.
“The athletes can all enjoy the world’s best coffee, our Café de El Salvador. Stations featuring our grain of gold and mobile units delight all the delegations participating in the San Salvador 2023 Games, who can’t stop praising it,” recently stated Óscar Domínguez, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
At each station, athletes can explore different varieties cultivated in the country, such as pacamara, geisha, bourbon, among others. They also have the opportunity to learn about the extensive coffee tradition in El Salvador.
Similar to the athletes, Café de El Salvador has also earned its fair share of awards and recognition. Last year, for example, the country achieved a winning bid of $72 per pound in the international online auction organized by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE), surpassing the achievement of 2021 when the price reached $70.
With this positive perception, coffee has become one of the country’s major assets. Together with sports and security, it stands out as a significant motivator for tourism.
“Supporting the development of coffee is also supporting tourism. Discussing coffee cultivation in El Salvador means delving into our roots, our historical legacy, and tourism serves as a vehicle to promote all these elements,” recently declared Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez.
