In recent remarks, the Security Cabinet emphasized the collaborative efforts between institutions in executing the Territorial Control Plan. Officials highlighted that there was previously a dispute between the Armed Forces and the National Civil Police (PNC). However, under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, the Security Cabinet now underscores the unification of efforts among these institutions to combat crime and provide a secure environment for Salvadorans.
“We have been working on the 5 Phases of the Territorial Control Plan. It hasn’t been easy, but we have the leadership of President Nayib Bukele. The current reality is completely different from what we inherited on June 1, 2019,” explained Minister of Security Gustavo Villatoro.
Officials pointed out that there used to be an ongoing dispute between the PNC and the Armed Forces.
“In previous governments, there was a constant dispute between the PNC and the Armed Forces, but now we work hand in hand, as it should be,” stated Villatoro.
According to Defense Minister René Merino Monroy, the Armed Forces now provide crucial support to the PNC.
“We have doubled the number of Armed Forces personnel, and that is why we can provide real support. We understood that it was a collective effort towards a common goal,” elaborated Monroy during the interview.
Meanwhile, PNC Director Mauricio Arriaza Chicas highlighted that the results achieved during President Bukele’s four years in office are “undeniable.” He further added that “the population can observe and perceive these results, and we have data to support our claims.”
“Let’s remember where we came from, let’s look at those high homicide rates in the past, and let’s see where we are now,” expressed Arriaza Chicas.
The collaborative approach between the Armed Forces and the PNC, spearheaded by President Nayib Bukele’s leadership, has fostered a sense of unity and coordination in the fight against crime. With the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan, Salvadorans have witnessed a significant improvement in the security situation, reflecting a tangible commitment to creating a safer environment for all.
