El Salvador International Airport has received close to 500,000 passengers so far in 2023.

2023 took off in the best way. Figures from the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA) state that El Salvador’s San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport is close to reaching half a million passengers served during the first months of the year.

The autonomous reported that the air terminal is the point where families meet again and the first door to the country for more international tourists to discover the wonders of El Salvador.

Statistics indicate that, between January 1 and February 12, 2023, the aerodrome served 432,914 passengers who entered, departed, and made connections and transfers in the country. In addition, during said period, 4,228 commercial passenger flight operations were registered.

According to the latest CEPA report, the Salvadoran air terminal is 67,086 passengers away from reaching half a million travelers; however, the figure could be exceeded, since there are still days left until the end of this month and, above all, exceed the data obtained in the first two months of last year, which were 544,303 travelers.

The data is also supported by Migration and Immigration, which indicates that an average of 4,460 national and international tourist entries are registered daily at the airport. During the past year, the country’s main air terminal received more than 3.4 million travelers, a record number thanks to the strategies promoted by the government of President Nayib Bukele in tourism and security.

According to the government, this movement of passengers was encouraged by the expansion of the passenger terminal, which required an investment of $56 million. The work consisted of the construction of 21,672.95 square meters, with which the capacity of the airport was expanded to serve 5 million passengers per year.

On the other hand, regarding cargo handling, CEPA confirmed that between January 1 and 12 of this month, the figures were also very positive, since they exceeded 3 million kilograms in imports and exports.
