According to what Dax Sosa, manager of the technology area of My First Bitcoin, told BeInCrypto, Jack Dorsey would have made a significant donation to the organization after a brief conversation. “The Proof of Work is recognized within the Bitcoin community. I made the comment in a meeting that I was going to write to Jack to ask him for help, and well, he responded and donated us 0.28 BTC to continue educating people about Bitcoin in El Salvador “
Notably, Jack communicated with My First Bitcoin through the Nostr service, a decentralized social networking and messaging protocol, which in recent weeks has excited both Jack and the rest of the bitcoin community.
There, when requesting support from the organization, Jack agreed by sending 0.28 BTC, which is equivalent to about $6,000, according to BeInCrypto’s Bitcoin (BTC) price calculator.
John Dennehy, founder of My First Bitcoin, expressed his gratitude to Jack to BeInCrypto: “We deeply appreciate this donation from Jack. It is thanks to this and other donations from the community that we are able to do what we do. It’s really inspiring to work in a space that places a high value on Proof of Work.”
Driving Bitcoin adoption with education in El Salvador
In a country like El Salvador, where Bitcoin became legal tender just a year ago, the only way to boost adoption is through education, and that is what Mi Primer Bitcoin is working on.
In 2022, some 40 students were certified with a diploma endorsed by bitcoiners from around the world. During 10 weeks, the young participants learned, among other things, about bitcoin mining, the importance of nodes to protect the network, and the role of the Lightning Network in transferring payments, as reported by CriptoNoticias in June last year.
The Mi Primer Bitcoin project was established on January 26, 2022, as a non-profit NGO, thus formalizing its efforts in the country to train thousands of people.
Now that they are considering the goal of spreading education about bitcoin throughout El Salvador, they have in mind establishing a new headquarters in the eastern part of the country, which includes the departments of Usulután, San Miguel, Morazán, and La Unión.
“We are currently located in the El Escalón area of the city of San Salvador, in a house that was also a donation. Now we focus on the eastern zone because there is a strong impact of bitcoin there, and getting there from San Salvador requires a 3-hour drive.” Napoleón Osorio, a member of the My First Bitcoin team.
