Tourist spaces received 6.5 million visitors in 2022.

Domestic tourism in El Salvador also registered positive figures in 2022, thanks to the tranquility that the country is experiencing, and was thus considered the safest year in history.

The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, affirmed that the public spaces between mountains, beaches, and cultural spaces registered a record number of 6.5 million visitors throughout the year.

The official added that the increase in tourist visits to the different parks, natural areas, and cultural centers is due to the security strategy implemented by the government of President Nayib Bukele. “People feel more secure and confident to enjoy their vacations,” she said.

The most visited destinations in 2022 were Sunset Park, which was inaugurated in September 2022, as well as the Tourist Complex of the Port of La Libertad, the Cerro Verde Natural Park, the Balboa Natural Park, and the country’s beaches.

For her part, the president of the Salvadoran Tourism Institute (ISTU), Eny Aguiñada, recently reported that between January and November 2022, Salvadorans flocked to visit the 14 recreational parks, including aquatic, natural, and amusement parks, managed by the institution.

«We have had very positive figures, at the end of November of this year we had 2.6 million visitors in the ISTU parks alone. Families have decided to do a lot of internal tourism, but also, the influence that has had a significant impact on the security issue, ” said the official.
