President Nayib Bukele emphasizes that this holy week has been the safest in El Salvador’s history

The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, reported on Monday that El Salvador recorded the safest Easter holiday period in the country’s history, thanks to the security plan implemented by the National Civil Police (PNC), the Armed Forces of El Salvador and the competent authorities.

“The safest Holy Week in the entire history of El Salvador. By the way, I took office as President on June 1, 2019. We will continue working… “, the president wrote in a publication on his official Twitter account.

According to the statistics shared by the head of state, from Sunday April 10 to Sunday April 17, only four homicides were registered in the national territory as a result of the strategies provided in the framework of the war against the gangs.

The data contrasts with the data reported between 2015 and 2016, when in this period up to 30 homicides per day were committed. The figures are alarming because between 2017 and 2018, there were between 10 and 15 deaths due to insecurity.

Instead, the statistics have taken a turn since the arrival of President Nayib Bukele in the executive chair. So far in 2022, 14 consecutive days have been reported without homicides in the national territory. In addition to this, 13 thousand, 086 gang members have been captured since the implementation of the exception regime.

On the other hand, the PNC reported that only one homicide was recorded last Sunday, April 17, in the municipality of Sonsonate, in the department of the same name. Meanwhile, two gang members died after attacking police officers in the jurisdictions of Coatepeque, Santa Ana, and Huizúcar, La Libertad.
