At a press conference, the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, announced that El Salvador had acquired four million tablets of the antiviral drug Molnupiravir, a drug that is marketed in countries such as the United States to combat COVID-19, with a price that ranges between $100 and $200.
The government official clarified that in El Salvador, this medication will be completely free.
According to Alabi, the drug is effective in avoiding the serious complications caused by COVID-19 in people who are positive for the disease.
The drug is 200 milligrams and four pills must be taken every 24 hours for five days maximum. “Those Salvadorans who receive these light blue kits must follow all the instructions” — he explained.
Alabi emphasized that this medicine should not be administered to anyone under the age of 18.
“To all Salvadorans, I tell you that we continue to implement strategies to combat the pandemic. Every day we advance with the sole objective of safeguarding the health and life of all” — he assured.
