With 66 votes in favor and four against in the plenary session of the Legislative Assembly, Rodolfo Delgado was re-elected as Prosecutor General for the period that will begin on January 6, 2022 and end on January 5, 2025.
The favorable judgement for the re-election of Delgado had the support of the parliamentary groups of Nuevas Ideas, GANA, PDC, and PCN. The ARENA and FMLN parties did not participate in the vote, while Vamos and Nuestro Tiempo voted against it. Furthermore, the oppositionist did not propose any candidate for the position.
Delgado, will continue in the position he has held since May 1, when, during the first plenary session of the current Legislative Assembly, he was elected to replace Raúl Melara after the plenary voted to indicate the illegality of Melara’s election as prosecutor .
Since then, Delgado has headed the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) for seven months, in which cases have been initiated against former officials of previous governments accused of corruption crimes.
