Construction of El Salvador’s Pacific Airport in La Unión continues to advance, with crews assembling major structural components of the passenger terminal as the government pushes forward with infrastructure development in the country’s eastern region.
The latest phase involves positioning heavy steel components with high-capacity cranes to create a distinctive curved roof and modern architectural facade. The terminal’s design is intended to give the future airport a recognizable appearance while supporting its role as a new gateway to eastern El Salvador.
The project is expected to expand opportunities for tourism, trade, and private investment by improving connections with regional and international destinations. Its development forms part of the government’s broader strategy to stimulate economic activity and create new opportunities beyond the country’s main urban centers.
According to project figures, construction has generated more than 3,600 direct and indirect jobs. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027. During its initial phase, the airport is planned to feature a runway measuring 2,400 meters long and 45 meters wide, with capacity to serve approximately 365,000 passengers and accommodate around 2,000 flight operations annually.
Once operational, the Pacific Airport could strengthen eastern El Salvador’s transport infrastructure and support the growth of tourism and commerce in La Unión and surrounding communities. The project represents a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at improving regional connectivity and attracting new economic activity to the area.
