El Salvador has officially kicked off the fourth edition of the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Longboard Championship at the renowned Club Salvadoreño El Sunzal in La Libertad Costa. Attracting elite athletes from 37 countries, the world-class event reaffirms the nation’s status as a premier global venue for international sports tourism and professional competitive surfing.
As a major highlight on the international surfing calendar, the tournament carries high stakes for participating athletes. International Surfing Association (ISA) Executive Director Robert Fasulo emphasized that the competition will serve as an official qualifier, stating, “We are going to qualify three athletes for the Longboard Pan American Games next year in Lima.”
Beyond the athletic competition, the championship serves as a key driver for regional economic development and local entrepreneurship. Tourism Minister Morena Valdez highlighted the broader community impact of hosting international athletic events, noting, “What we want is to position the destination, generate jobs, and enable athletes to make a living from the sport,” while pointing to new gastronomic options and local business growth in La Libertad Costa.
With world-renowned break points and strong government backing, El Salvador continues to leverage its natural coastline as a top-tier athletic stadium. INDES President René Martínez expressed immense pride in welcoming global competitors back to El Sunzal’s iconic waves, celebrating the return of an event that showcases the best of longboard surfing to an international audience.
