El Salvador Partners with UNDP to Drive Biodiversity Financing and Sustainable Investment Opportunities.

El Salvador has officially launched the National Environmental Forum 2026: “Transforming the Present, Building the Future,” bringing together international diplomats, corporate leaders, and policymakers to align economic expansion with ecological preservation. Amid a profound national transformation led by President Nayib Bukele, country leaders are positioning environmental sustainability not as a constraint, but as a catalyst for responsible economic growth and foreign investment.

Central to this initiative is a strategic alliance with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aimed at unlocking novel green financial mechanisms and mobilizing international private capital. During the event, officials unveiled the results of the Seventh National Biodiversity Report alongside advancements in the BIOFIN framework—essential tools designed to direct sustainable resource management and turn biodiversity conservation into profitable, eco-friendly business opportunities.

The forum underscored a decisive shift from technical diagnosis to immediate, scalable action across key sectors. Environment Minister Fernando López emphasized the urgency of cross-sector collaboration, stating, “The challenge is to move from diagnosis to action—actions that transform, conserve, and guarantee that our country can continue to grow sustainably.” He extended appreciation to international cooperation agencies and private companies committed to energy efficiency, risk management, and water stewardship.

In addition to high-level diplomatic support, the forum highlighted youth-led climate advocacy through a “Mini COP”organized alongside World Vision, where young representatives delivered the Declaration of Salvadoran Children and Adolescents. UNDP Representative Jairo Acuña reaffirmed the agency’s role as a strategic partner, noting, “Solid international alliances are the indispensable engine for prosperous and sustainable development. As we call on investors to come to El Salvador, from the UNDP we also call on them to invest in environmental sustainability.”
