Paraguayan President Santiago Peña hosted El Salvador’s Vice President Félix Ulloa at the presidential residence, Mburuvicha Róga, to discuss shared strategic priorities and bolster diplomatic relations between the two nations. During the official gathering, Peña extended a formal invitation to Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele for an upcoming official visit to Paraguay, marking a significant milestone in their growing regional alignment.
Following the meeting, President Peña highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral relations via social media, stating, “We held an excellent meeting in which we discussed topics of common interest and reaffirmed the bonds of friendship that unite our nations.” He emphasized that consolidating strategic partnerships with key regional allies remains crucial for national development and shared economic growth.
The vice-presidential visit also included discussions with Paraguayan lawmakers, who advocated for opening a Salvadoran embassy in Asunción to solidify diplomatic communication. Additionally, senators requested support for the repatriation of the remains of legendary Paraguayan classical guitarist Agustín Pío Barrios “Mangoré,” who passed away in 1944 and is buried at the Cementerio de Los Ilustres in San Salvador.
This high-level engagement builds on previous bilateral agreements established earlier this year focusing on technical, cultural, and scientific cooperation across tourism, road infrastructure, social development, and public security. As ideological and strategic alignment deepens between Peña and Bukele, both governments continue to solidify their joint agenda within Latin America.
