El Salvador Names Top Coffee Cupper for the 2027 World Cup Tasters Championship in Colombia.

El Salvador has selected Marjorie Patricia Canjura as its national coffee cupping champion, securing her spot to represent the country at the 2027 World Cup Tasters Championship in Bogotá, Colombia. Organised by the Salvadoran Coffee Institute (ISC) during Coffee Growing Week, the 2nd National Cup Tasters Championship brought together 18 top sensory evaluators at the San José La Majada Cooperative in Juayúa, Sonsonate. Rebeca Ibáñez and Jorge Arévalo claimed second and third place, respectively.

As part of her preparation for the global stage, Canjura will undergo a specialized training program designed to sharpen her sensory skills ahead of the international finals. Her victory highlights the vital role technical evaluators play in defining origin quality, establishing international trade value, and elevating El Salvador’s specialty coffee footprint in key markets such as the United States.

“Let us remember that the role of the cupper in this industry is crucial. The purpose of cupping is to evaluate coffee quality; only in this way can we evaluate the potential of our producers and the positioning of these coffees abroad as well as locally,” Canjura stated following her victory.

Emphasizing the importance of sensory leadership for the nation’s coffee sector, ISC President Mauricio Sansivirinireinforced the institute’s commitment to technical talent. “We must highlight this activity and give value and importance to these national talents in the areas of coffee cupping and quality control,” Sansivirini noted.
