U.S. energy giant Chevron has announced a $90 million investment plan over the next five years in El Salvador, coinciding with the 90th anniversary of its iconic Texaco brand in the country. Building upon a $55 million commitment deployed since 2020, this major capital infusion highlights growing investor confidence in El Salvador’s economic trajectory and expanding consumer demand.
A central pillar of the initiative is the expansion of Chevron’s Acajutla terminal, where two new storage tanks will increase total capacity from 450,000 to 710,000 barrels. Currently at 70% completion, the project is slated to become operational in the first quarter of 2027. Country Manager Miguel Ramos emphasized that the expansion addresses a steady 3% annual growth in fuel demand over the past five years, reinforcing the company’s position as the nation’s largest fuel importer.
The strategic push also includes constructing approximately 60 new service stations nationwide, targeting emerging industrial corridors such as Nejapa and key tourism hubs. This expansion will build upon Chevron’s existing network of 120 stations, creating an estimated 250 direct and indirect jobs per new location. Ramos noted, “The commitment Chevron has maintained for 90 years is to guarantee the overall fuel supply, and this investment speaks to the dedication we hold for consumers in the country.”
To mark nine decades of operations, Chevron launched its commemorative campaign, “90 años moviéndonos con El Salvador,” celebrating the shared history and future progress of the brand and the nation. Supported by Salvadoran business partners, Chevron continues to solidify its role as a key player in powering El Salvador’s modern development and infrastructure growth.
