The U.S. Embassy in El Salvador has welcomed the country’s completion of the second and third reviews under its program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), highlighting economic growth and ongoing reforms as factors that could support greater investor confidence.
In a message shared by the embassy, the United States congratulated El Salvador on reaching the latest milestone in its IMF program and said the country’s economic performance and reform agenda could help attract additional foreign direct investment.
President Nayib Bukele echoed the message, emphasizing El Salvador’s economic growth and reforms as elements contributing to stronger market confidence and the country’s appeal to international investors.
The IMF’s 40-month Extended Fund Facility for El Salvador was approved in February 2025 with access of approximately $1.4 billion. The program focuses on strengthening public finances, rebuilding financial and external buffers, and advancing governance and transparency reforms.
The IMF has also identified policies to encourage foreign direct investment, economic diversification, employment and exports as important components of El Salvador’s medium-term growth strategy.
The completion of the latest reviews marks another step in the implementation of the IMF-supported program and places El Salvador’s economic reforms, investment climate and growth prospects in focus as the country seeks to strengthen its position for future investment.
