First Lady Gabriela de Bukele welcomed Shaikha Al Nuwais, Secretary-General of UN Tourism, along with international delegations and guests, at the National Library of El Salvador (BINAES) as the country prepares to host the global celebration of World Tourism Day 2026.
Accompanied by her daughters Layla and Aminah, the First Lady received the international representatives at one of El Salvador’s most prominent cultural and educational spaces. The gathering formed part of the activities leading up to the official celebration, bringing global tourism leaders closer to the country’s cultural identity and tourism offerings.
Under the concept “An Experience to Discover El Salvador as a Family,” the visiting delegations explored different expressions of the country, highlighting its natural landscapes, heritage, traditions, art, gastronomy, and adventure. The experience presented El Salvador’s Family Friendly tourism approach, placing families at the center of the visitor experience.
The reception also provided an opportunity for international guests to experience how El Salvador is combining tourism with culture, education, technology, and spaces designed for people of different ages. BINAES served as a setting to showcase this approach while introducing visiting representatives to the country’s evolving tourism vision.
As host of World Tourism Day 2026, El Salvador is participating in international discussions about the future of tourism while presenting its own perspective on a sector increasingly focused on accessibility, inclusion, innovation, and experiences designed around people and their families.
With international delegations already gathered in the country, the activities surrounding World Tourism Day 2026 are placing El Salvador at the center of global tourism conversations and offering visitors an opportunity to experience the country through its culture, traditions, natural attractions, and family-oriented destinations.
