UN Tourism highlighted El Salvador ahead of the September 27 celebration, describing the country as the setting for a global conversation about the future of tourism. The 2026 observance places particular emphasis on digital transformation and artificial intelligence, under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
The international event comes as El Salvador reports strong growth in visitor arrivals. According to data from UN Tourism cited in recent reporting, the country recorded a 37% increase in international tourist arrivals during the first half of 2026, compared with the same period in 2025. This placed El Salvador first among destinations in the Americas by growth during the period and second worldwide.
President Nayib Bukele highlighted the figures on social media, describing El Salvador as the “best-performing tourism destination in the Americas and second in the world.” The ranking refers specifically to the growth rate in international arrivals during the first six months of 2026.
