The new Francisco Morazán Mausoleum in San Salvador has received a message of appreciation from one of the Central American leader’s descendants following the transfer of his remains to the newly established site beside the National Palace.
Luz Estevez, the great-great-granddaughter of General Francisco Morazán Quezada, expressed her gratitude on behalf of her family for the gesture by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele. She also connected the occasion with Morazán’s historic vision of greater Central American unity.
The new mausoleum forms part of the Central America Garden, a recently developed public space in San Salvador’s Historic Center. The remains of Morazán were transferred to the site as part of efforts to establish a permanent place dedicated to preserving his historical legacy.
For Morazán’s descendants, the new location carries particular historical significance. Estevez’s remarks place the family’s recognition within a broader conversation about Morazán’s enduring place in Central American history and regional identity.
