El Salvador is emerging as the world’s fastest-growing tourism destination, with international visitor growth accelerating significantly in 2026, according to figures cited from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Data shared by Porfirio Chica in September 2026 places El Salvador at the top of the growth ranking, recording a 37% increase between 2025 and 2026. Paraguay followed with 34%, while Bhutan and Vanuatu posted increases of 31% and 30%, respectively. Palau, Mongolia, and the Republic of Korea also recorded notable growth.
The figures highlight the rapid transformation of El Salvador’s tourism sector, as the country continues to attract greater international attention for its beaches, cultural attractions, nature destinations, and improved visitor environment.
The development has also renewed attention on the relationship between public security and tourism. Supporters of El Salvador’s security strategy argue that improved public safety has created a more favorable environment for tourism, investment, and economic activity.
