El Salvador’s education system is drawing international attention after a pilot program involving 171 public schools produced PISA results comparable to performance levels in Germany and Sweden.
The progress was highlighted in a publication by Spanish outlet El Español, which described the rapid transformation observed in the participating schools as a “miracle” within El Salvador’s education system.
President Nayib Bukele responded to the report by emphasizing the significance of the results while pointing to the country’s ongoing education reforms.
“Miracles are performed by God, but our pilot program, God willing, will surprise the world,” Bukele said, underscoring his expectation that the initiative could produce even broader results.
The pilot program represents a major component of El Salvador’s efforts to strengthen learning outcomes through new educational strategies and technology. Its initial results have placed the country’s education transformation under greater international scrutiny, particularly as its performance is compared with that of established education systems in Europe.
With the experience of the 171 participating public schools serving as an initial benchmark, El Salvador is positioning the modernization of education and improved academic performance as a central priority for the country’s next stage of development.
