El Salvador Eases Foreign Investment Rules as Corporate Expansions Surge Past $500M.

El Salvador is accelerating its economic momentum by streamlining regulations and offering lucrative tax credits to attract international capital. Through its Investment and Export Promotion Agency (Invest), the country has already authorized $503.8 million in corporate expansions as of September. This significant influx of capital is projected to create 2,200 specialized jobs, marking a strong vote of confidence from foreign and domestic enterprises.

To build on this growth, the Legislative Assembly’s Technology, Tourism, and Investment Commission has approved key reforms to the Investment Expansion Promotion Law. The proposed changes ease entry requirements by lowering the minimum operation period from 10 to 5 years and reducing necessary tax history filings to just 4 fiscal years. Furthermore, corporate groups investing at least $75 million will now be eligible for expanded benefits, including tax incentives on machinery and equipment purchases.

These legislative adjustments complement an aggressive incentive framework managed alongside the Ministry of Economy. Under the law, qualified companies expanding operations by $1 million to over $20 million receive income tax credits ranging between 10% and 30% of their total investment. Out of 23 prequalified companies, five have already secured official authorization to receive these fiscal perks, directly bolstering key sectors of the Salvadoran economy.

Highlighting the early impact of these measures, Invest President Rodrigo Ayala emphasized the tangible results during a legislative committee meeting. “There are $503.8 million that have been invested in expansions, 2,246 projected new jobs, and within these results, we can already see a positive impact,” Ayala stated. As El Salvador continues to modernize its legal frameworks, it cements its position as a competitive and welcoming hub for long-term foreign direct investment.
