High-level officials from El Salvador met with Chilean President José Antonio Kast during an official diplomatic visit aimed at reinforcing bilateral security defense and tackling transnational organized crime across Latin America. The delegation included Public Safety Minister Gustavo Villatoro, Defense Minister René Merino Monroy, and Attorney General Rodolfo Delgado.
The meeting focused on exchanging crucial expertise and strategies regarding penitentiary administration and intelligence sharing to dismantle powerful criminal networks. Addressing the international scope of the threat, President Kast emphasized that “organized crime does not recognize borders, and that is why cooperation between countries is indispensable.”
The official dialogue also served to highlight El Salvador’s aggressive anti-gang initiatives executed under the administration of President Nayib Bukele. Minister Villatoro shared key insights into the operational framework that transformed the nation’s domestic safety, noting that the gathering allowed both nations “to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Chile and El Salvador, sharing experiences and knowledge on the strategies that have allowed us to transform our country’s security.”
