An initiative supported by the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador is marking five years of using English education and community service to expand opportunities for young Salvadorans.
The “English for a Better Future” program has reached more than 4,600 participants, mobilized over 500 volunteers, and brought together 14 institutions committed to strengthening English-language learning while encouraging young people to contribute to their communities.
The initiative began five years ago through collaboration between the U.S. Embassy, volunteer scholarship recipients, and UTEC, creating a model that connects language development with social action.
During an event celebrating the program’s achievements, organizers highlighted its emphasis on learning, volunteerism, and inter-institutional collaboration, recognizing the role of participants and volunteers in sustaining the initiative.
Beyond language instruction, the program seeks to equip Salvadoran youth with skills that can broaden their academic and professional prospects while encouraging civic engagement and community involvement.
The milestone reflects continued U.S.-El Salvador cooperation in education and youth development, with English-language learning serving as a practical tool for connecting Salvadoran students with new opportunities in an increasingly global economy.
