El Salvador Prepares for Peak Cruise Season: 12 Ships Scheduled as Tropical Tourism Soars.

El Salvador is positioning itself as an increasingly attractive warm-weather getaway for North American and European travelers seeking an escape from winter. Corsatur director Alejandra Durán announced that the country expects to welcome 12 cruise ships during the upcoming 2026–2027 season, kicking off on August 31. Tourism authorities are already coordinating with local destinations to accommodate the arriving passengers as vessel visits continue to bounce back.

The upcoming schedule follows a strong rebound in cruise traffic, highlighted by a massive 600% increase in vessel arrivals in 2025 compared to 2024, bringing over 8,500 passengers to Salvadoran shores. While the projected 12 ships fall slightly short of the record 13 vessels and 18,200 passengers recorded in 2023, the sector demonstrates solid momentum compared to previous years.

To maximize the short port stops typical of regional cruise itineraries, El Salvador is focusing on compact, high-impact excursions. Arriving tourists are offered curated day trips to iconic sites, including the Joya de Cerén archaeological park, the historic center of San Salvador, volcanic landscapes at Cerro Verde and the Santa Ana volcano, as well as the country’s famous Pacific beaches.

Looking ahead, local tourism operators are actively preparing infrastructure and service teams to ensure seamless ground logistics for incoming visitors. “We have to prepare the destinations where people will get off and where they will go,”stated Durán, emphasizing the importance of delivering high-quality experiences that consolidate El Salvador’s position on the Central American cruise map.
