China is expanding its educational cooperation with El Salvador by awarding government scholarships to Salvadoran students for the 2026–2027 academic year, reinforcing education as a key pillar of bilateral relations.
The Chinese Embassy in El Salvador, in coordination with the Salvadoran Government, held a scholarship award ceremony for students pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies at universities across China. This year’s beneficiaries will specialize in 25 fields of study at 17 Chinese universities, including artificial intelligence, biomedicine, renewable energy, and logistics engineering.
During the ceremony, Zhang Yanh emphasized the strategic importance of education in the relationship between the two countries, describing scholarship recipients as future contributors to the continued development of bilateral cooperation.
“Education occupies a very special place within our bilateral relationship,” Zhang said, highlighting the role young Salvadorans can play in strengthening the relationship between both nations in the years ahead.
The scholarship program provides recipients with opportunities for academic and professional development while exposing them to advanced research, technology, and specialized training in one of the world’s leading educational and innovation environments.
The initiative forms part of the broader educational cooperation between the Government of President Nayib Bukele and the People’s Republic of China, with both sides seeking to strengthen people-to-people ties and create new opportunities for Salvadoran youth.
By investing in areas such as AI, clean energy, medicine, and engineering, the program also connects the next generation of Salvadoran professionals with fields considered increasingly important to the country’s technological and economic development.
