In a milestone move for Central American aviation, global aerospace leader Airbus has chosen El Salvador’s Civil Aviation Authority (AAC) to host a specialized regional operational safety training on July 28–29. Led by Airbus Regional Directors of Operational Safety for the Americas, Rodolfo “Rudy” Quevedo and Santiago Saltos, the two-day summit brings together technical delegations from Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua, alongside key regional safety organizations like ACSA/COCESNA and GESOC.

This marks the first time Airbus has designated the AAC as the host site for this high-level regional initiative. The training focuses on enhancing risk identification, improving safety data sharing, and strengthening each country’s State Safety Program (SSP). Interactive workshops and practical exercises will equip technical personnel to adopt proactive, data-driven strategies against operational hazards, establishing a unified defense against shared challenges in regional air travel.

The selection highlights El Salvador’s growing profile as a strategic technical hub at a time when the nation is experiencing rapid growth in air connectivity, international airline routing, and tourism. AAC Executive Director Homero Morales emphasized that proactive risk management remains the top priority for national aviation authorities. “The evolution of aviation requires us to strengthen our capabilities to identify hazards in a timely manner, assess associated risks, and adopt preventive measures that allow us to anticipate events before they occur,” Morales stated.

By leading this collaborative effort, El Salvador reasserts its commitment to building a safer, more integrated aviation system that effectively supports the region’s expanding commercial and economic footprint.
