The United States has praised the work of El Salvador’s Coastal Police, describing the specialized unit as the “gold standard” for maritime counter-narcotics operations in the region due to its close cooperation with U.S. authorities.
In a statement shared by the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador, citing the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), U.S. officials highlighted the effectiveness of the joint efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking.
“El Salvador is making waves once again. For drug traffickers, U.S. collaboration with the Salvadoran Coastal Police unit is the perfect storm. Their officers courageously board drug vessels and block maritime routes, setting the gold standard for the region,” the statement noted.
The recognition underscores the growing security cooperation between El Salvador and the United States, particularly in strengthening maritime interdiction capabilities and disrupting criminal organizations operating along key trafficking routes.
In recent months, El Salvador has reported a series of major drug seizures in the Pacific Ocean, reinforcing the country’s strategy to combat transnational organized crime through coordinated operations with international partners.
The latest acknowledgment from U.S. authorities highlights El Salvador’s expanding role in regional maritime security and its continued collaboration with the United States to curb illicit drug trafficking throughout the Eastern Pacific.
