First Lady Gabriela de Bukele welcomed Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and his delegation to discuss the progress of El Salvador’s “Nacer con Cariño” Law, a flagship initiative that continues to strengthen maternal and early childhood healthcare across the country.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the implementation of the law and its impact on improving care for pregnant women, newborns, and families through a more humane, respectful, and comprehensive healthcare model. The initiative seeks to ensure quality medical attention from pregnancy through early childhood while promoting the well-being of mothers and infants.

PAHO recognized the “Nacer con Cariño” Law as an exemplary public health strategy, highlighting it as a successful model that can serve as a reference for other countries across the Americas in advancing maternal and child protection policies.

The meeting also reaffirmed the strong cooperation between El Salvador and PAHO in promoting healthcare innovation, strengthening maternal and child health services, and sharing best practices that contribute to improving public health throughout the region.
