El Salvador’s International Tourism Soars 103% Above 2019, Reaching 2.5 Million Visitors

El Salvador’s tourism sector continues to post remarkable growth, with international arrivals reaching 2.5 million visitors during the first half of the year, reinforcing the country’s position as one of Central America’s fastest-growing travel destinations.

According to the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), international visitor arrivals increased 28% compared to the same period last year and surged 103% above 2019 levels, highlighting the sustained recovery and expansion of the country’s tourism industry. The figures reflect growing global interest in El Salvador’s beaches, volcanoes, historic towns, gastronomy, and cultural attractions.

Regional travelers remained the largest source of visitors. Guatemala accounted for 42% of total arrivals with approximately 1.1 million visitors, followed by the United States with 653,000 visitors (26%), Honduras with 464,000 (19%), and other international markets contributing 315,000 visitors (13%).

The continued rise in international tourism underscores El Salvador’s expanding appeal as a destination for leisure, culture, and nature. Increased connectivity, tourism promotion, and investment in the sector have helped position the country as a leading destination for travelers seeking authentic experiences in the region.
