El Salvador to Host World Tourism Day 2026 for the First Time in History.

In a historic milestone for Central America, El Salvador has been officially designated to host the global celebration of World Tourism Day 2026. This marks the first time the nation will anchor this prestigious event, which is set to take place during the weekend of September 26 and 27, 2026. The formal handover ceremony occurred in Malaysia, where Salvadoran Ambassador Jaime José López Badía received the mantle from top United Nations Tourism officials.

The summit will transform El Salvador into the epicenter of international travel diplomacy, convening tourism ministers, global delegates, and investment forums from around the world. Tourism Minister Morena Valdez confirmed that the high-level gathering will feature key dignitaries, including UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nowais, further consolidating the country’s growing influence in the global travel sector.

According to tourism authorities, the 2026 agenda will heavily focus on cutting-edge innovations and modern traveler demographics. The event will center around the integration of artificial intelligence in travel solutions and the “family-friendly” strategy actively championed by the Salvadoran government. «We will have all my world counterparts and also companies related to artificial intelligence,» Minister Valdez highlighted, underscoring the tech-forward approach of the cónclave.

By hosting this landmark assembly, El Salvador aims to cement its transformation into a model of sustainable, innovative, and inclusive tourism. The influx of international experts and investment forums is expected to boost the nation’s infrastructure and project its diverse cultural and natural assets to the lucrative North American market and beyond.
