El Salvador’s coast is rapidly transforming from a world-class surfing destination into a thriving hub for international business and lifestyle infrastructure. Quanto Development officially broke ground on Plaza Espacio La Libertad, a modern $15 million commercial complex strategically positioned in one of the country’s most dynamic growth zones. Backed by the government’s flagship Surf City strategy, this 11,000-square-meter venue marks a significant milestone in attracting private capital to the nation’s booming coastline.
The massive project responds directly to an economic and demographic surge in La Libertad Costa, which currently hosts around 85,000 inhabitants and accounts for over 21% of El Salvador’s tourism enterprises. Local authorities and development agencies emphasized that the region has become a magnet for foreign investment and long-term visitors. “This project is a clear sign of the confidence investors have placed in this area,” highlighted Samadhy Martínez, executive director of investinSV.
A major driver behind this infrastructure expansion is the rapid influx of digital nomads and expatriates who are choosing the Salvadoran coast as their permanent or semi-permanent base. Tourism Minister Morena Valdez noted that coastal towns like El Tunco, El Sunzal, and El Zonte are leading the country in remote workers utilizing technology to live by the ocean. “Projects like these are crucial because we now have more residents, including foreigners,” Valdez stated during the ceremony.
Designed to enhance local commerce and elevate the lifestyle options for both locals and expats, the complex will feature 21 commercial storefronts, seven kiosks, two drive-thru locations, and the leading national supermarket chain, Súper Selectos, as its anchor tenant. The development highlights a seamless integration with the expanding San Salvador Metropolitan Area, capitalizing on a massive 70% mobility rate between the capital city and the coast.
As the second major project by Quanto Development in the country, the commercial plaza underscores a new era of economic modernization and legal clarity for international real estate developers. Reflecting on the zone’s competitive edge, Alejandro Cantizano, General Manager of Quanto Development, concluded: “We are convinced of the potential of this coastal area… this project represents a firm bet on the future and the generation of new opportunities.”
