First Lady’s Vision Program Brings Free Eye Care and Glasses to More Than 5,000 Schools in El Salvador

El Salvador continues to strengthen student well-being through a nationwide vision care initiative that is bringing free optometric services and eyeglasses to thousands of children across the country.

Led by the Office of the First Lady, the program has reached more than 5,000 educational centers, providing students with access to eye examinations designed to identify vision problems at an early stage. The initiative seeks to ensure that children receive the support they need to fully participate in the learning process and improve their academic performance.

By offering eyeglasses at no cost to students who require them, the program helps remove barriers that can affect concentration, reading, and classroom engagement. Officials have emphasized the importance of early detection in preventing vision-related challenges from impacting educational development.

The effort forms part of broader initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of Salvadoran children through preventive healthcare and equal access to essential services. Through this nationwide strategy, thousands of students are receiving the tools needed to enhance both their learning experience and overall well-being.

As the program continues to expand, El Salvador reinforces its commitment to supporting children’s education through accessible healthcare solutions that create lasting benefits inside and outside the classroom.
