El Salvador Inaugurates $7 Million Emergency Center at Soyapango National Hospital, Expanding Healthcare for 230,000 Residents

El Salvador has taken another step in the modernization of its public healthcare system with the inauguration of a new emergency facility at the National Hospital of Soyapango. The project is expected to enhance medical services for more than 230,000 residents by expanding emergency care capacity and providing access to modern, specialized treatment areas.

The new infrastructure includes dedicated pediatric and medical-surgical emergency units, observation areas, respiratory therapy services, orthopedic care, minor surgery facilities, and two fully equipped operating rooms designed to provide immediate attention to critical cases involving children, adults, and obstetric patients.

Built with an investment of approximately $7 million, the 2,100-square-meter facility also incorporates essential support services such as a pharmacy, X-ray unit, and social work department. Health authorities stated that the expansion is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s hospital network and improve the quality of care available to Salvadoran families.

The project was financed through support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and complements other recent healthcare initiatives, including the opening of the Mini Nido facility earlier this year. Officials highlighted the investment as part of a broader strategy to modernize healthcare infrastructure, increase service capacity, and improve patient outcomes nationwide.

The new emergency center is expected to significantly reduce response times and provide more comprehensive care, reinforcing El Salvador’s commitment to expanding access to modern healthcare services for its population.
