El Salvador continues gaining international recognition for its environmental conservation and tourism development efforts after British travel magazine Wanderlust included the country for the first time on its prestigious Green Travel List 2026.

The recognition highlights El Salvador’s growing commitment to sustainable tourism through coordinated initiatives led by the Ministries of Environment, Tourism, Foreign Affairs, and local communities focused on protecting the country’s natural and cultural heritage.

In its latest edition, Wanderlust particularly praised El Imposible National Park, describing the protected forest as an ideal destination for hiking and birdwatching while recognizing ongoing conservation efforts to preserve biodiversity and wildlife habitats.

The inclusion builds on previous international exposure received in 2025, when the UK-based publication named El Salvador among its recommended “Good to Go” destinations. At the time, the magazine highlighted the country’s volcanoes, forests, Pacific beaches, surf culture, and welcoming atmosphere.

Wanderlust also featured several of El Salvador’s most iconic destinations, including Suchitoto, La Palma, El Tunco Beach, Joya de Cerén, and Tazumal, alongside destinations such as Ataco, Cerro Verde, the Gulf of Fonseca, and Las Flores Beach.

The publication additionally recognized El Salvador’s coffee production, artisan traditions, biodiversity, and expanding hospitality sector, recommending beach, mountain, and urban accommodations for international travelers.

The growing visibility of El Salvador in international travel publications reflects broader efforts by the government of Nayib Bukele to position the country as a competitive tourism destination focused on sustainability, nature, culture, and adventure travel.
