To bolster its national infrastructure, the Government of El Salvador has officially launched the PRODEPORTE II program. This ambitious initiative, supported by a $150 million loan agreement with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), represents a cornerstone in the country’s ongoing transformation. The project, coordinated by the National Institute of Sports (INDES) and the Ministry of Finance, focuses on the comprehensive modernization and reconstruction of key athletic venues across the territory.
The Minister of Finance highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership, noting that the move is “an important step for the execution of the PRODEPORTE II program, oriented to modernizing and reconstructing sports scenarios in different parts of the country.” By prioritizing high-standard facilities, the government aims to provide world-class environments for both professional athletes and the youth. This second phase of the program was solidified in a high-level meeting involving INDES President Yamil Bukele, Minister Jerson Posada, and CABEI representatives.
Beyond simple renovation, the program includes the modernization of 13 strategic sports venues distributed across departments such as Santa Ana, San Miguel, La Unión, and Usulután, among others. This nationwide overhaul is designed to decentralize development, ensuring that the interior of the country gains the capacity to host international competitions, student games, and national team matches. The project includes specialized equipment for various disciplines, including soccer stadiums and multi-purpose gyms.
Ultimately, this investment signifies El Salvador’s commitment to social inclusion and economic growth through sport. By upgrading these spaces, the administration seeks to strengthen national athletic identity while positioning the country as an emerging hub for regional sports tourism and high-level athletic encounters. This transformation reflects a modern El Salvador ready to compete on the global stage, both on and off the field.
