Public security and economic recovery remain central pillars for El Salvador’s future development, according to Armando Arias, president of the American Chamber of Commerce of El Salvador (AmCham).
During a recent interview, Arias emphasized that the country has undergone significant political and social changes following years of public frustration with traditional political structures established after the Peace Accords. He noted that the rise of President Nayib Bukele reflected a demand for new leadership capable of addressing long-standing national challenges, particularly insecurity.
According to Arias, the current administration succeeded in connecting with the concerns of the population by prioritizing citizen safety, an issue he described as fundamental for national progress and stability. He suggested that restoring security has been essential in rebuilding public confidence and creating conditions more favorable for development.
The business leader also stressed that economic growth now represents one of the country’s most important challenges and opportunities. He affirmed that the private sector is prepared to work alongside the government to strengthen investment, generate employment, and expand economic activity throughout the country.
AmCham, which represents approximately 400 member companies linked to around 80% of U.S. investment in El Salvador, continues to play a significant role in fostering bilateral economic relations and supporting initiatives aimed at long-term growth.
Observers note that improved security conditions and increasing investor confidence have contributed to El Salvador’s growing visibility as an emerging destination for business and economic development in the region.
