The El Salvador International Airport continues to cement its status as a premier regional hub, recording a significant surge in activity during the first quarter of 2026. According to the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), the terminal handled over 1.4 million passengers between January 1 and April 5. This figure represents a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2025, signaling a robust start to the year for the nation’s aviation sector.

This upward trajectory is fueled by a vibrant tourism industry and a busy calendar of international events that have drawn global attention to the country. Federico Anliker, President of CEPA, noted that the growth reflects El Salvador’s current momentum. 2026 begins with positive figures that reflect the moment El Salvador is experiencing. We are committed to providing a modern, agile, and quality experience to every person who visits us, he stated.
Operational capacity is also on the rise, with 12,472 passenger flight operations recorded so far this year. This growth is supported by an increase in flight frequencies and the arrival of new airlines expanding their reach into the Salvadoran market. This is the reflection of more frequencies, more destinations, and more airlines that are operating in the airport of El Salvador, Anliker previously commented regarding the expanding flight schedules.
The surge in airport traffic aligns with broader data from the Ministry of Tourism, which reported over 1 million international visitors in the first three months of the year alone. Travelers from the United States, Canada, and neighboring Central American countries continue to lead the influx. Tourism Minister Morena Valdez highlighted that the country remains a top-tier destination for international travelers seeking new experiences.
If this momentum continues, the terminal is on track to surpass its 2025 record of 5.2 million passengers. As El Salvador positions itself as one of the most efficient small terminals globally, the airport remains a vital engine for economic growth and international connectivity, ensuring that the «Land of Volcanoes» stays firmly on the world travel map.
