El Salvador and India have taken a new step in strengthening their diplomatic relationship through the signing of an academic cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing professional training for Salvadoran diplomats. The agreement was signed by El Salvador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill Tinoco, and India’s Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.
The partnership connects El Salvador’s Diplomatic Institute Doctor José Gustavo Guerrero with its Indian counterpart and seeks to reinforce diplomatic education and institutional collaboration. As part of the initiative, 36 officials from El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs received full scholarships to participate in a Special Course for Salvadoran Diplomats organized by the Indian institute.
“The agreement is part of the scholarship program that India offers to Salvadorans and reflects a modern, sovereign and results-oriented foreign policy,” Hill Tinoco said, noting that the initiative aligns with the country’s broader diplomatic strategy. While specific details of the agreement were not disclosed, the foreign minister emphasized El Salvador’s commitment to strengthening international engagement.
The Salvadoran official highlighted the importance of education, knowledge, and South-South cooperation in advancing the country’s global presence. “We know we are not isolated, that we must interact with our friendly nations. We need to be effective and proactive, and that is what you are teaching us,” she stated.
The agreement comes as El Salvador and India approach 47 years of diplomatic relations, established in 1979. India’s ambassador concurrent to El Salvador, Raj Kumar Singh, described the initiative as “the beginning” of “a significant amount of work” between both countries and praised recent developments in the nation. “The change in your country is fantastic and you are working at full speed, which is why we are grateful to work with you,” he said.
