El Salvador and Costa Rica Launch “Shield of the Americas” to Boost Regional Security and Cooperation.

El Salvador and Costa Rica strengthened their bilateral ties on Thursday as President Nayib Bukele received Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves at Casa Presidencial de Coatepeque for an Official Visit focused on security and regional cooperation.

After a private meeting and an expanded session with their delegations, both leaders signed the “Shield of the Americas,” a new agreement aimed at coordinating security efforts, sharing intelligence, dismantling criminal networks, and promoting development between the two nations.

President Bukele highlighted El Salvador’s experience in reducing crime. “We can support Costa Rica with our experience in combating criminality and dismantling criminal structures,” he said. He added, “We converted the most insecure country in the world into the safest in the Western Hemisphere.”

The Salvadoran leader emphasized the long-term significance of the pact. “What we have signed today will be remembered for generations,” he said.

The agreement marks a pivotal step toward a more secure and cooperative Central American region.
