The European Union’s Ambassador to El Salvador, Duccio Bandini, affirmed that the country is undergoing “a moment of significant transformations” under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, noting strong advances in areas such as tourism, technology, and infrastructure. He emphasized that the European Union (EU) seeks to continue working hand in hand with the Salvadoran Government, strengthening cooperation and supporting sustainable development.
According to Ambassador Bandini, the relationship between the EU and El Salvador “is solid and mature,” with a clear intention to deepen collaboration in 2025 and 2026. He highlighted that the EU aims to promote European investment in El Salvador and expand the export of Salvadoran products and services to the European market of 450 million consumers.
Upon beginning his mission in the country, Bandini outlined a vision based on mutual trust, mutual respect, and concrete results, reaffirming that the EU has been a long-term partner for El Salvador. His priorities include supporting the Government’s development agenda, strengthening institutions, and promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
The ambassador identified four key areas guiding EU–El Salvador cooperation:
- Education and Technical Training
- Expanding opportunities for youth, women, and girls.
- Promoting digital skills and participation in the digital economy.
- Encouraging scientific and technological education.
- Green Transition and Climate Action
- Supporting environmental protection and sustainable resource management.
- Advancing resilient agriculture and climate adaptation.
- Economic Development and Digitalization
- Fostering productive diversification and digital transformation.
- Strengthening cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention.
- Enhancing opportunities in fintech and emerging technologies.
- Reducing trade barriers to increase European investment and Salvadoran exports.
- Democratic Governance and Rule of Law
- Supporting governance frameworks that reinforce El Salvador’s stability and investment climate.
- Promoting inclusive development and societal participation.
Bandini expressed strong optimism for the coming years, noting that 2026 will be pivotal for launching new projects focused on employment, infrastructure improvements, and opportunities for young people. He also underscored the importance of academic and cultural exchange programs such as Erasmus+, which continue to connect Salvadoran youth with Europe.
Reflecting on the country’s progress, the ambassador stated that El Salvador is “a country advancing with stability and a vision for the future,” and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment: “We want to continue working hand in hand.”
As El Salvador secures greater international attention for its rapid transformation, the European Union’s partnership remains a key pillar in supporting sustainable growth, innovation, and long-term development.
