El Salvador has taken an important step to modernize its cattle sector through a new cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and The Beef Initiative, a U.S. organization specializing in beef production and cattle genetics. The agreement was signed during Bitcoin Histórico by Vice Minister Óscar Domínguez and Texas Slim, founder of the initiative.
The partnership will provide Salvadoran producers with technical training, genetic management guidance, and sustainability strategies aimed at increasing productivity and rebuilding the country’s beef industry. The government hopes to position El Salvador as a regional reference in high-quality cattle genetics and strengthen national food self-sufficiency.
During the signing, Texas Slim emphasized the shared vision behind the project. “Our organization was born over six years ago in the United States, and it has brought us to El Salvador to share our knowledge in ranch building and cattle management under a bitcoin standard,” he said. He added that decentralizing ranching operations can help regenerate land and restore control over the food chain.
Texas Slim noted that the initiative begins with genetics. “When you build food security based on cattle, you start with soil genetics and cow genetics. Today we are here to create a program of heritage cattle breeds for El Salvador,” he stated. He explained that the plan will start small and expand into a nationwide effort, bringing long-term benefits directly to Salvadoran families through improved beef production.
