Luxembourg Praises El Salvador’s Security Achievements and Digital Transformation

El Salvador strengthened its international partnerships this week as Luxembourg commended the country’s historic progress in security, education, and digital innovation. Vice President Félix Ulloa Jr. met with Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Cooperation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as well as Duccio Bandini, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to El Salvador and SICA, to discuss the nation’s transformation under President Nayib Bukele’s leadership.

During the meeting, Vice President Ulloa outlined the pillars of El Salvador’s new development model: public security, educational reform, state digitalization, and technological innovation. He emphasized that the nation has moved from being the world’s homicide capital to becoming the safest country in the Western Hemisphere—achieving more than 1,058 days without a homicide. “This is a new country, where communities have recovered harmony, peace, and hope,” he affirmed.

Ulloa highlighted how this stability has stimulated economic growth, boosted tourism, and drawn the attention of major global technology firms. The arrival of Google, the establishment of Tether in the country, and growing investment interest position El Salvador as an emerging regional hub for digital innovation.

On education, the Vice President referenced the $1,524.7 million allocated in the 2026 National Budget, demonstrating long-term commitment to strengthening the public education system. He also noted the nationwide distribution of tablets and laptops for all public school students, preparing the next generation for the digital era.

Ulloa also presented Bitcoin Histórico, an international summit on digital assets and innovation to be held in the Historic Center of San Salvador. The event will convene global experts, entrepreneurs, and leaders to discuss digital transformation and opportunities for future development.

Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel praised El Salvador’s achievements, noting that security is fundamental for well-being, investment, and job creation. The meeting also included Charles Schmit, Chargé d’Affaires of Luxembourg in Costa Rica and co-accredited in El Salvador, reaffirming the growing diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.
