El Salvador Launches DoctorSV: The World’s First Nationwide AI-Powered Medical System.

El Salvador introduced a major transformation in public healthcare with the launch of DoctorSV, an artificial intelligence–powered medical platform presented by President Nayib Bukele during a national address. The system positions the country as the first in the world to offer a unified, AI-driven medical service to its entire population at no cost, delivering diagnostic accuracy above 90 percent through Google’s latest technology and providing immediate access to care.

During the announcement, Guy Nae, Google Cloud’s Director for Latin America, described DoctorSV as a tool that brings medical services directly to citizens through advanced AI. This is something new that people will have in the palm of their hands, he said, highlighting that patients will also be able to rate their experience and help improve the quality of services across medical centers, laboratories, and pharmacies. He emphasized that the partnership with El Salvador has produced a unique, world-class healthcare innovation.

President Bukele underscored that DoctorSV is one of the first major results of the cooperation agreement signed with Google two years ago. He stressed the transformative impact of diagnostic precision, stating, You mentioned something incredibly important, the precision of the diagnosis. That completely changes reality, noting that Salvadorans will now receive care comparable to the best physicians globally. The President also emphasized that the country is entering a new era in which it can share advanced public-sector innovations with the world.

Experts praised the platform for its human and social impact. American epidemiologist Stella Aslibekyan explained that DoctorSV was developed specifically in the Salvadoran context while meeting international data standards, making it a scalable model for other nations. Meanwhile, health systems expert Juan Alberto Serna illustrated the program’s impact with a powerful example: Imagine a mother in Morazán who leaves a consultation with a prescription and immediate worry: Will I have the money? Where do I get the medicines? Where do I run the blood test or the chest X-ray for my child? Starting today, this program completely solves that situation.

Paco Cuevas, Lead Architect for Google Cloud Health, noted that the system uses Google’s Gemini medical model to guide patients through AI-driven triage, assist doctors during consultations, and elevate diagnostic accuracy to world-class levels. He emphasized that AI frees doctors from repetitive tasks, allowing more human-centered care. President Bukele concluded by saying that El Salvador is ready to set a global example in public health, reinforcing the country’s commitment to innovation and equal access for all citizens.
