El Salvador’s National Tree to Be Planted at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay as a Symbol of Friendship

El Salvador’s National Tree, the Maquilishuat (Tabebuia rosea), will soon flourish at one of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks: Gardens by the Bay, a global leader in environmental innovation and sustainable design. The tree will be integrated into the Founders Monument, which honors the legacy of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.

According to El Salvador’s Ambassador to Singapore, this gesture represents a growing friendship and shared vision between both nations — rooted in sustainability, cultural respect, and mutual progress.

The inclusion of the Maquilishuat not only celebrates El Salvador’s rich natural heritage, but also symbolizes the enduring connection between Latin America and Southeast Asia. The initiative underscores El Salvador’s commitment to environmental diplomacy and international cooperation in green development.

As part of this collaboration, Gardens by the Bay continues to strengthen its global partnerships by integrating meaningful symbols from diverse cultures, reflecting its mission to unite nature and humanity.

The Maquilishuat’s presence within the Founders Monument will stand as a living tribute to friendship, sustainability, and the beauty of shared global values.
