President Nayib Bukele has highlighted the urgent need to improve the welfare of thousands of dogs and cats living on El Salvador’s streets, emphasizing that the government aims to change this reality without resorting to cruelty.
Through an official statement, the president affirmed that El Salvador already has the necessary financial resources to address the issue but is now looking for expert partners to develop a sustainable and humane animal welfare program. The goal, he noted, is to create a model that can inspire and be replicated throughout Latin America.
“Thousands of dogs and cats live on our streets. We want to change that, but without cruelty. We have the financial resources, but we are seeking expert partners to make it a model for Latin America. Who wants to come and help us?” President Bukele stated.
The initiative has sparked international interest among animal welfare organizations and advocates who view El Salvador’s approach as a potential blueprint for compassionate and effective public policy in the region.
