Spanish Investors Eye El Salvador’s Growing Tourism Sector at Madrid Forum.

El Salvador held a forum in Madrid this week to promote Spanish investment in the country’s growing tourism sector, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event aimed to create new business opportunities for both Spanish and European investors, while also encouraging more Spanish tourists to visit El Salvador.

“Spain remains one of our priority markets for tourism,” the ministry said in a statement, citing data from the Central American Tourism Integration Secretariat (Sitca), which shows that more than 107,000 Spanish visitors traveled to El Salvador between 2017 and 2024 — the highest figure among European countries.

The meeting was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Adriana Mira, who presented El Salvador’s favorable business climate and legal framework to potential investors. The Ministry of Tourism highlighted the sector’s steady growth, noting that the country welcomed over 3.9 million visitors in 2024.

Representatives from the Salvadoran Chamber of Tourism (Casatur) also met with Iberia Airlines to explore opportunities from the private sector perspective.

In addition, Economy Minister María Luisa Hayem met with leaders from the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, and the State Secretariat for Trade to discuss investment opportunities in Surf City and other strategic tourism areas. “These meetings strengthen ties and generate genuine interest within the Spanish business community,” the government stated.
