Salvador’s President Skips UNGA 2025: ‘The Free World Is No Longer Free’

President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador announced that he did not attend this year’s United Nations General Assembly, explaining that he considered the event of little use in its current form.

“This time, I didn’t attend the United Nations General Assembly; I found it to be of little use this year. But you can always watch last year’s speech if you feel like wasting time like I did,” Bukele stated on his official account.

In his recent remarks, Bukele highlighted concerns about the erosion of freedoms in the so-called free world. He emphasized that true freedom depends on principles such as freedom of expression, equality before the law, respect for private property, and personal safety. Bukele pointed to the rise of organized crime, social unrest, and restrictions on civil liberties in some Western nations, noting that these trends serve as a warning to all countries.

The Salvadoran president’s decision to focus on national priorities underscores his commitment to tangible results and the safety and progress of the Salvadoran people. Observers note that this approach reflects a pragmatic and action-oriented leadership, showcasing El Salvador as a nation that prioritizes results over ceremonial appearances on the global stage.
