Investment Funds in El Salvador Gain Strength With AAA Ratings and Higher Returns.

El Salvador’s investment funds market continues to expand, reaching $1,602.8 million in assets under management by July 2025, a 16.9 percent increase compared to the $1,370.8 million reported in the same month of 2024. The growth represents an additional $232 million managed by local fund operators.

Open-end funds drove the expansion, growing 33.9 percent to $376.8 million, while closed-end funds rose 12.5 percent to $1,226 million. The main difference lies in liquidity: open-end funds allow investors to enter or exit at any time, while closed-end funds require a defined holding period.

One standout case is the Open-End Investment Fund Renta Liquidez, managed by Banagrícola, which nearly doubled its assets from $83.7 million to $142.4 million in a year. With over 1,800 participants, including individuals and companies, the fund has become a key low-risk investment vehicle. Its annualized daily return reached 4.64 percent in July. “This fund allows more people and companies to access investment solutions with real impact on their financial stability,” said Ana Cristina Arango, vice president of Enterprises and Government at Bancoagrícola.

In the closed-end segment, the Fixed Income I Fund remains the strongest, with $662.5 million in assets and an annualized daily return of 8.98 percent.

Currently, El Salvador has four fund managers overseeing 16 funds—six open and 10 closed—up from 13 a year earlier. Most open-end portfolios are concentrated in fixed-term deposits, representing 37.3 percent of assets.

Cross-border activity is also growing. The Integrated Stock Exchange between El Salvador and Panama recorded 492 transactions worth $112.5 million by July, nearly doubling last year’s $61.6 million. In the local market, the El Salvador Stock Exchange registered $2,654.2 million traded across 4,496 transactions, with repos leading at $1,090 million and average returns of 5.4 percent.

With diversified offerings, strong performance, and AAA ratings, investment funds are consolidating as a solid option to grow savings in El Salvador.
